Fernando Romero is a freelance
writer, translator. His articles have been published by the
Washington Post, The Dallas Morning News, and San Diego Magazine,
among other publications on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.
Prior to becoming a freelancer, Mr. Romero worked as a Staff
Writer for the Orange County Edition, of the Los Angeles Times.
In addition, he served as the Managing Editor for Nuestro
Tiempo, the Los Angeles Times Spanish-language weekly tabloid
and he was a copy editor for the Riverside County’s
Press-Enterprise newspaper in the late 1990’s. Prior
to that Romero served as Editor in chief of the San Diego
Hoy Spanish-language newspaper, and held the title of Correspondent
in Baja California for the San Diego Union-Tribune
Romero holds a B.A. degree in Journalism, and a minor in English
from San Diego State
University.
Throughout his career, Romero has earned many distinguished
awards including: A Lifetime Achievement Award from the California
Chicano News Media Association, First Place, Education Reporting
from the Society of Professional Journalists, and First Place
from the Society of Professional Journalists, The National
Association of Hispanic Publications Print Awards, Communicator
of the Year, California Chicano News Media Association, and
Outstanding Humanities Alumnus, San Diego Mesa College.
