Carmen Escobosa began
her journalism career 24 years ago, in Mexico City, her hometown,
with Televisa, one of the largest broadcast companies in Latin
America. From 1979 to 1986 Escobosa co-anchored the 12:00 p.m.
newscast aired on channel 5. From 1986-1987 she co-anchored,
produced and contributed as a reporter to the station’s
6:00 p.m. newscast. In addition, she anchored, produced and
contributed as a reporter to a one-hour segment for ECO, a 24-hour-news
service broadcast by Televisa around the globe.
In 1989, Escobosa moved to the United States and began working
in the nation’s capital as a Washington, D.C. based
freelance correspondent for Telemundo-CNN, CNI, The cable
news channel in Mexico City and RADIO MIL, in Mexico City.
1995 Escobosa returned closer to home to San Diego, California
where she continues her work as a correspondent covering border
issues for KMEX-Univision in Los Angeles and its affiliates
across the United States. In addition to her work with Univision,
Escobosa is also a contributor to such shows as FOX TVís
Americaís Most Wanted, Fox-Undercover, which airs in
Los Angeles and TV Asahi, a Japanese station.
Her exclusive contacts and knowledge of border issues has
given her a name as a well recognized award-winning journalist.
Her efforts have not gone unnoticed. In 1999 Escobosa was
honored by the National Association of Hispanic Journalist
with the best TV News Series of the year. In 1999 she earned
an Emmy Award by the National Academy of Television Arts and
Sciences as a reporter contributing to the best regularly
scheduled daily newscast. In 1999 she was also honored with
the prestigious Ruben Salazar Award presented by the California
Chicano News Media Association, and with a La Pluma Award
given by the Chicano News Media Association San Diego Chapter.
In 2000, Escobosa received a La Pluma Award presented by California
Chicano News Media Association San Diego Chapter for the Best
TV News Series. In 2001, she received a La Pluma Award, this
time, for the Best TV Feature Story. That same year, she was
also recognized with the Best TV News Series Award presented
by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
In addition, Escobosa continues to serve as a panelist on
various international journalism conferences and seminars.
Escobosa attended the prestigious School of Journalism “Carlos
Septien Garcia”, in Mexico City.
